Windows 11 Upgrades Are Free: But What is System Requirements
According to Microsoft, if your computer doesn’t meet the following requirements, your device will not be able to run Windows 11. The minimum system requirements listed below are the official specifications given by Microsoft.
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
RAM: 4 gigabyte (GB)
Storage: 64 GB or larger storage device
System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0 (Must be enabled in UEFI)
Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
Generally speaking, the major differences between the minimum requirements from those of Windows 10 is the aforementioned increase in RAM to 4GB, and the need for a CPU with two or more cores (and 64-bit only), and the aforementioned requirement for a TPM and UEFI BIOS.
How can I tell if my PC is officially compatible with Windows 11?

Many Windows 10 users have been downloading Microsoft’s PC Health App to see whether Windows 11 works on their systems. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s first version of the PC Health Check app did not tell users what hardware was failing tests, leading to even more confusion.
But PC Health Check is not the only tool for checking if you can upgrade to Windows 11 or not. Another option is WhyNotWin11, which helps you to determine if you hardware is up to the task, including checking what TPM version your system has.
This software lets you know if your machine is Windows 11 compatible by running a small script. It runs through the currently known system requirements for Windows 11 and then provides you with the results.
Run the tool. You’ll need to run it as administrator.
Don’t be worried if your PC runs Windows 10 and can’t run Windows 11. Microsoft has committed to supporting Windows 10 through October 2025.
