File Explorer in Windows displays any internal or external drives that are connected to your system by default. While seeing empty drives in File Explorer may be helpful in some situations, chances are that most users only want to see those drives when there’s actually something connected, such as an actual memory card in your reader or drive in your hot-swap bay. However, there are conceivable situations in which you do need to make these empty disks visible. You might want one format new disk, an make a backup on a clean drive, or you simply prefer to be able to see all connected devices at a glance, regardless of whether they contain data.

Method 1: Show or hide empty Drives in Windows 11

1- We have coded an .exe to make your job easier, just download the file at the end of the page (password:ceofix) and Unzip it.

2- Then simply double-click on the Empty_Drives_settings.exe file

3- A pop-up window will appear with the text “Empty drives will not be displayed”, simply click on the OK button.

To reverse this change, click on the Empty_Drives_settings.exe file again. and once again double-click on the Empty_Drives_settings.exe file .

Method 2: Via File Explorer

Launch File Explorer and click the three dots (…), also known as the “See more” button. In the menu that opens, choose Options.

Find and check the box labeled Hide empty drives and then tap OK.

Method 3: Via Settings Page

Open the settings. In the settings, click on “System” and then on “For developers”.

For developers

Open the “File Explorer” settings and enable the “Show empty drives” option to display drives without data in File Explorer.
