Twitter username and display name are not the same things. Your username is your unique Twitter handle, the name that appears in your profile URL and allows you to log in, reply to tweets, and direct message others (it’s the name that follows the @ symbol).
Your display name, on the other hand, appears above your username on your profile page and is likely the name that most users will recognize you by.
Change Your Twitter Username on desktop
1- Launch your favorite web browser and sign into Twitter. Click on more in the left pane.
2- And then click “Settings and privacy“.
3- Under the Account section, type a new username in the Username text field. Your username must be unique. Twitter checks your username as you type it, letting you know if it’s already been taken.
4- Scroll down and click on the blue Save changes button.
