This feature will help some devices run better, especially those with older hardware because The Windows 10 May 2020 Update will improve Windows Search so it no longer causes high disk usage when indexing processes.
HDDs are slower than SSDs, and as a result, can be bogged down by processing like Windows Search indexing. Even on modern PCs, the indexing process can have an impact on SSD and CPU usage, which in turn affects the device’s overall performance.
Devices with faster SSDs don’t suffer from slowdowns caused by Windows Search indexing as much but the change should help them a bit as well when under heavy workloads.
Windows 10 could your PC faster
The one at version 1909 throttled the disc usage and the one at 2004 didn’t. Insider Preview testers confirmed that the update improves speeds after running “multiple tests” on “real hardware and virtual machines with different configurations.” So, what does this all mean? Older laptops with reduced performance could be revived when the Windows 10 May 2020 update arrives as early as this month.
