How to Mute a Group Chat or Friends Chat on WhatsApp

Whatsapp supports two main chat types: one-on-one and group. The main difference between the two types is that groups may have more than two chat participants. Whatsapp Group Chat allows you to chat with up to 256 people at once.

It’s a great way to stay in touch with family, friends or colleagues. Unfortunately, if you’re busy and the other members decide to have a long, detailed conversation your phone is going to beep and flash constantly.

WhatsApp Mute Function

The ‘Mute’ option allows you to mute group notifications. You will still receive messages sent to the group, but your phone will not make a sound or vibrate when messages are received.

Method:1

1- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
2- Go to the offending Group Chat. It does not matter if it is a group chat or one-on-one conversation.

3- Tap on the menu icon in the top right corner of the screen and select “Mute notifications” from the menu that opens.

4- Then, select how long you want to turn off notifications from the group for: 8 Hours, 1 Week, or 1 Year.
